How to ship desserts

There are many different ways to ship desserts. Whether you’re looking for a simple way to send your favorite dessert to a friend, or a more involved method to preserve the dessert’s freshness and quality, there’s a way to do it that’s right for you.

When shipping desserts, it’s important to keep in mind the temperature and humidity levels in the recipient’s area. Most desserts can be shipped frozen, but it’s important to let them thaw slowly before serving so they don’t become soggy or gooey. For those who are worried about the temperature, there are many insulated boxes and packaging materials that can help keep the dessert cool during transit.

When it comes to packaging, it’s important to keep in mind the dessert’s shape and size. For example, a cake can be packaged in a cake box or a cake round can be packaged in a cake tin. It’s also important to consider the occasion. For example, if you’re shipping a cake to a birthday party, you might want to put a Happy Birthday sticker on the cake box.

When picking up the cake

Inspect the cake and take pictures. If the cake is already packed, inspect and photograph the box. If the cake or box is damaged, bring it to the shipper’s attention right away. After shipping, it will be your responsibility.

When transporting a cake in a car

  1. The ideal place for the cake in the car is on the floor in front of the front passenger seat: flat surface, no direct sunlight.
  2. If you have a partner, ask them to hold the cake during transport. You can place the cake on your lap. The main thing is to make sure the cake is level and doesn’t slide off inside the package.
  3. You can also place the cake on a seat with a mat made of silicone, rubber, or other non-slip material. Place the mat in such a way as to level the surface of the seat.
  4. Be sure to turn on the air conditioner in the summer, use the heater in moderation in the winter, or place the cake so that it is not exposed to streams of hot air. If the cake is under the passenger seat, turn off the leg warmers; if on the seat, turn off the seat warmers.
  5. Try to secure the cake. Especially if it’s tall. Fasten it with a seat belt, if possible.
  6. Drive carefully: try to avoid sudden braking, sharp turns, potholes, and speed bumps.
  7. While carrying the cake from the car to the recipient’s door, hold the box by the bottom.

When carrying the cake on public transportation

  1. If you work on foot, don’t take orders with cake deliveries. As a rule, cakes are very large and fragile: it is almost impossible to carry them on public transport without damage. Do not try. Only take orders with small cakes or other small-sized confections.
  2. In summer, use a thermal bag or cooler (if available).
  3. Exclude external influences on the packaging of the cake: do not run into a subway car or bus at the last moment, do not enter a crowded car or bus, do not run up and down the escalators.
  4. In transportation, place the cake on a seat or any other flat surface. Be sure to hold it while driving and especially during stops.
  5. Don’t squeeze the cake box too tightly: the walls could damage the cake.

When handing over the cake to the recipient

Ask the recipient to check the cake in front of you. If possible, take a picture of the cake in the recipient’s hands. In case you have a complaint, you’ll have proof that you delivered the cake and it was fine.
